Visual Stories

Please post your visual story here. Tell me about your: goals, obstacles, and your hobbies. Use a metaphor or a simile to describe your goals, obstacles, and hobbies.

My goals are clouds; they are having children with my husband, having my third book published, and getting tenure.

My obstacles are mountains, and they have been: working two jobs while finishing my Ph.D., having custody of my niece and nephew, and losing my parents as an undergraduate student.

My hobbies are a stream next to the mountains. They are: reading, writing, watching movies, playing with my 100 pound Lab named Missy, volunteering and doing service, participating in a weekly Bible study, sending cards to my friends who need encouragement, and growing plants.

Now, tell me about yourself!

71 comments:

  1. My goals are waves: they are earning my bachelor's degree in education and my certification in ESL, obtaining an ESL teaching position, and mentoring my own teenage children through the rest of high school and college.

My obstacles are barbed wire fences: they are going to school and raising a family, balancing the finances of school-work-family, and overcoming some of the negative thought processes that I grew up with.

My hobbies are an amusement park ride: they include spending time with my husband and children, reading, scrap booking, being a Girl Scout and church youth leader, and walking my Golden Doodle Abbey.

  2. My goals are like stars: they are getting my bachelors degree, paying for college without student loans, finding a teaching job after graduation and continuing my own education.

My obstacles are like a climbing wall: they are being a full time student with a part time job, balancing school with other parts of my life, and believing in myself.

My hobbies are like a pinwheel: they include playing tennis, cooking, making cards, playing with my dogs, walking, crocheting, reading, spending time with my long-time boyfriend, and playing board games.

My goals are like diamonds: they are to obtain my second bachelors, move up the corporate ladder at work, and improve education for children.

My obstacles are like stepping stones, finding the time to accomplish all I want to do and the funds to do it.

My hobbies are like magic: I enjoy 3 D puzzles, scrapbooking, crocheting, reading, and working with the youth at my church.

  4. My goals are like a Rubix Cube. They are to be a good Dad and role model, have a healthy family, be happy, finish my college work without going into debt, and finally pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. Some I have done, some are a constant work in progress, and others I have yet to attain. They are all intertwined - accomplishing one always seems to affect the other.

My obstacles are phantoms. They are TIME (never enough of it), over-thinking and worrying too much, and being able to prioritize and just let some things go. I always want to be my best at everything and it just becomes too much. I am my own worst enemy...

My hobbies are like old county roads. They include spending time with my family and dogs, home renovation projects, and computer games (Rock Band Rules!!!). Basically any distraction that can take my mind off more serious things, keep my hands busy, and with no deadlines.

  5. My goals are fresh warm breezes. As I accomplish my goals I feel a warm sensation of an ahhh moment. These breezes are obtaining my Elementary Education Degree, restoring my self confidence, believing it is never too late to be what I might have been, and seeing my 17 year old daughter through the next hard years of discovering herself.

My obstacles are waves that keep knocking me down. My husband having an affair and marrying his mistress after a 22 year marriage. Having stayed home to raise our 4 children I have not finished a degree for my career choice, I am in extreme financial chaos, I am going in debt to live by student loans, I am 51 years old and frightened to be just beginning a teaching career, trying to juggle being a full time student, substitute teaching on Tue and Thur, cleaning 2 houses for income, and working part time at an evening and weekend job. And being overwhelmed by the fact that my daughter no longer has a father in her life, he has chosen his new wife over a relationship with her and she is devestated.

My hobbies are the sunsets at the end of the long hard day such as going to Zumba class, boating on the river, reading and listening to music.

My Visual story is representative of a bicycle.

My goals are the destinations that it will take me to. I am trying hard to finish with my bachelors degree in education. I am also trying to raise my GPA and find some work this summer as a substitute teacher.

My obstacles are the hills and slopes that require more peddling and work to keep on riding. I understand that life isn't going to be easy or downhill the entire time. I am going to have days that are going to take some extra work to get through. I will have papers and projects that push me to working late late nights and early mornings. My bike will take me anywhere I want to go if I put in the effort and work that is needed.

My hobbies are my pieces of "Flair" that make my bike my own. My flair on my bicycle consits of my horn on my handlebars and my sleek banana seat. My horn represents my guitars. I love to sit and play my guitars for hours on end. I seem to escape a bit when I am just sitting playing guitar. My banana seat represents my living room, video games and my computer. I love to just sit back in comfort and relax.

  9. My goals are planted seeds; they are earning my certificate in Early Childhood Education, working closely with mothers and children to help with the development and education of children, marrying and having a family.

My obstacles are broken bridges; they include heartache from ending a relationship of three years, managing the many responsibilities that life has recently given me, staying strong in my faith to continue to be a positive and happy person through the hard times.

My hobbies are like music notes; and they include dancing and teaching zumba, spending time with my close family, good talks with good friends, arts and crafts, listening to music, decorating, and learning and growing closer with God.

  10. My goals are like linking chains. My goals are to complete my Bachelors Degree, obtain a Supervisor position someday, and to attend Head Starts National Conference in April 2011.

My obstacles are brick walls that sometimes feel like some are small and some are taller. With some walls I feel like it took no effort to climb over while others took so much effort. These obstacles are finding time to be a full time employee while being a full time mom. I also work a second job to make ends meet which makes these obstacles more difficult at times.

My hobbies are like relaxing in a hot tub. It drowns out all my anxiety and makes me forget about all my troubles. These hobbies are riding my four wheeler with my family through the country. Watching my children compete in their sporting events, watching tv, and reading books.

    ReplyDelete
  11. My goals are like shooting stars. My goals are to complete my Bachelors Degree and get my Special Education certificate. I am wanting then to go on and get my Masters as well. I also want to coach volleyball after school because that has always been a passion of mine!

My obstacles are like road bumps. I am a senior transfer and I found out at the beginning of summer that my other college closed after 126 years of being open. The news came from no where and when I found out, I had to begin the college search again. I felt like a senior in high school all over again. They always say, "Things happen for a reason." I really hope I find that reason soon! But I have to just go on, and have a smile on my face to know everything is going to be ok :)

My hobbies are like a rollar coaster. I LOVE the game of volleyball and still continue playing and coaching when I have free time. I also love to go shopping and spend time with my family! When I have free time I enjoy watching tv, exercising, and living a healthy life!

  12. My goals are like a newly planted garden. They are to finish school and get my bachelor's degree. Be a good mom. Make sure my son is happy and healthy.

My obstacles are like road blocks. They are raising my son as a single mom. Being shy and quiet. Trying to balance everything that has to be done as a mom and full time student.

My hobbies are like waterfalls. I love to sew, knit, read, play at the park with my son, read with my son, spend time with family, and cook.

  13. My goals are like diving in to the deep blue sea. I want to complete my Bachelors Degree within two years. After the completion of my degree I plan to get married and start my family and find a wonderful teaching position. My final goal is to become a school librarian.

My obstacles are like a juggling fire batons. I have to work during my schooling so I can avoid ALL debt associated with life and school. I wannt to be a good friend and family memeber while juggling everything else.

My hobbies are like a beach vacation. Getting away from everyday life is what I love to do. Reading or watching my favorite shows on DVR is the life for me. I also love to go on little weekend getaways with my boyfriend.

    ReplyDelete
  14. My goals are like the early morning sunrise over the lake. I want to graduate college with my degree in Elementary Education, then begin working on my Masters in Counseling. And hopefully change the lives of many children through the use of my Education and passion for children

My obstacles are like a huge bolder. Working less to take on my extensive school work has caused me to be limited with my money. Having to juggle school, work, and a social life all into one.

My hobbies are like the fresh air after a cool rain. I love to fish, hunt, and ride 4wheelers; anything outdoors is what I enjoy doing. I love to spend time with my friends and let loose. But what I enjoy the most is living life to the fullest and happiest I can.

    ReplyDelete
  15. My goals are like growing oak tree. I would like to use the resources I have to enrich the lives of others while growing and bettering myself through education and volunteer work.

My obstacles are like moguls. They are mostly small, but seem to pop up at every turn.

My hobbies are like acupuncture. I router signs and artwork for friends, volunteer for local non-profits and generally love the outdoors.

  30. My goals are like skipping a stone on water. We plan the throw, approach the water and fire! Does it happen perfect? or anything close to the way I want it? Not always! Then what's next?? TRY AGAIN. We feel accomplished when things go the way we want, our goals are met. If it doesn't work the first time, Try again. If we never try in life, we never succeed.
My Goals: receive my second bachelor's degree. Teach elementary school (hopefully 3-5th grade), create my own family, then maybe teach college when I get older. Just be happy :)

My obstacles are like hurdles on the track. We view our lives as a race to the end. We turn a corner and what happens, we see something in the way, so what's the plan? Attach that hurdle at full speed and do what we can do to leap, put everything you've got behind it, JUMP, then continue on. We will approach more than one hurdle in our race (life), but all we can do it take them on with everything we've got and race for the finish line!
My obstacles: 1. Money-Supporting myself while in school full time and making money to help support my family. 2. Healthy life- continue on my path of self betterment while the stress of school is now added to work and home life.

My hobbies are like something sweet to eat (say a Reece's or Cheesecake). They are not something that is necessary everyday, but when we feel the need to just endulge, take the time and enjoy them, they make it all worth it. This is why we love them so much. We don't do it everyday because we will take advantage of it [or get fat, haha].
My main hobby is photography, also crafting, like latch hooking, just something artistic. I also love music. It's my escape!

  32. My goals and obstacles are like a Marathon. At first I am fired up and ready to start. The anticipation is high, but somehow something(an obstale) manages to get in my way like slick payment. This makes me fall and figure out how I will continue on. There have been times that I have had to take the road that most don't take, but I still plan to finish with as much energy as I started with.

My goal is to get a certificate in Early Childhood/Special Education. I plan to have this completed by next December. After completion I plan to find a job close by. I want to work with Kindergarteners or 1st Graders.

My obstacles are a lose of a job and having to find other ways to pay for school.

And at this point I really don't have any hobbies that I am focusing on. My main focus is to complete school and get a job. I am a little too focused on school to devote anytime to anything else right now.

I love that you compared your goals to diamonds, because getting your degree is just about the finest things that you can get. Besides having children.

  34. My Life is Like a Flower Garden...

My goals are the newly formed buds appearing on the dew-soaked stems...finishing my degree (the first in my familyon both sides to go to college), running 1 more 5-k by the end of the year, participating in another triathlon, obtaining a master's degree in counseling, going on an out-of-country mission trip and continueing to grow in my faith.

My obstacles are the ugly weeds that pepper my flower garden...pulling one weed at a time: Recently divorced out of an abusive marriage, managing my home and all the up-keep it requires, experiencing abandonment and scarred relationships from my extended family, making time for each of my three kids--and tending to each of their needs, and overcoming the anxiety of starting back up at school and all the unknowns that life throws at me.

My hobbies are like the fresh rain that waters my garden...it keeps my flowers alive and blooming: Exercising, reading, playing with my kids, volunteering, serving, eating healthy and self-improving.

    ReplyDelete
  35. My goals are like blossoming flowers. First, I have to learn and grow to get where I want to in life. My goals are: earning my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, getting a job as a first grade teacher, learning to eat healthy and exercise while I'm young, and living life to the fullest because you only live once.

My obstacles are like jumping hurdles. I'm ready to jump, but then I fall. Right now my obstacles in life are: finding a way to pay for college, getting health insurance, and finding myself.

My hobbies are like driving 100 mph. I am always up for adventure. I love horseback riding, dancing, traveling, ziplinig, camping, and most of all spending time with family and friends.

    ReplyDelete
  36. My goals are like my chicken parmigiana recipe... each ingredient is a key piece to the meal: to finish my Elementary Education degree and move on to my masters in Special Needs, to start a family, to own my own home, to help out those in need like others did for me, to make community service a staple in my life, and to rescue and raise bully breed dogs.

My obstacles are like spider webs... sticky and complex, but I will find my way through: working my way through school and finding the right balance of things between my job and my education, remaining calm through situations in which I don't immediately see a resolution, and keeping confidence in myself to get through school.

My hobbies are like Pirate GOLD!... I am the pirate, and I treasure all my pieces of gold: making bulletin boards at work, working out at the gym, cooking, hosting, and watching way too many netflix!

  37. My goals are like: a road trip across the U.S. I want to do a little bit of everything, experiencing everything possible. My pit stops include: a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education, possibly a Masters Degree to achieve an administration position, learning to sew, building my own house, and somewhere in there-having children.

My obstacles are like: detours; the type of detours that might have you waiting for hours. I feel like I am always taking the long way which leaves me at a standstill. It's like I can't reach my goals fast enough. Working 40 hours a week, buying our first house, moving into that house, and homework make my days all the longer and the wait that much harder.

My hobbies are like: a much needed vacation. When I do get a chance to enjoy camping, cooking, riding four wheelers, scrapbooking, & hanging out with friends and family; I take a moment to take it all in and take lots of pictures!

    ReplyDelete
  38. My Goals: I am a mom so my main goal would be to make her proud that I am her mom. I want her to be able to say to her friends that she thinks I am the best mom ever. I would describe my goals as something to be met in the future but not so far away that they are unachievable.

My obstacles: I find that my patience, or lack thereof, is preventing me from truly being able to sit back and enjoy the ride. Like a roller coaster you wish it would be over soon but at the end you are glad you did it and wish you took a little more time to enjoy the ride. Same as motherhood, you want them to grow fast but when it is said and done you wish you sat back and enjoyed the ride a little more.

Hobbies: Traveling, cooking, running, and spending time with family.

    ReplyDelete
  39. My goals are stairs; they are getting my bachelors degree, get a teaching job, maybe having another child.
My obstacles are like ice bergs; so much more under the surface, going to school with a child, working, money (surface) and under the surface, lots of family issues.
My hobbies are spas, reading, watching movies, playing with my son, spending time with family and friends, fishing and about anything that gets me outdoors.

  47. My goals are like a summer sunset, to get my bachelors degree and land a teaching job. One day get married buy a house and eventually extend my family.
My obstacles are like a tornado headed my way. I am taking an internet class and until today did not have the internet. Also I am enrolled as a full time student as well as raising a child and working part-time (almost considered full-time).
My hobbies are like an evening walk on the beach. I love spending time with my son playing with him and taking him to the park. Along with spending time with my boyfriend watching movies together.

    ReplyDelete
  48. My goals are like the starship Enterprise, exploring new worlds. They include finishing my Master's thesis on the impact of the decennial Census on American history, successfully navigating Web CT in order to obtain my TSL Certificate to make my investment in my Missouri and Kansas Secondary Social Studies pay off and my teaching approach more successful, obtaining a teaching position in a secondary school, and being accepted into a doctoral program in American Studies.
My obstacles are like asteroids, usually appearing unexpectedly, doing damage to the hull. The first obstacle is my age. At 61, when most teachers are retiring, I am having great fun learning how to make American history relevant to students who hate social studies. Favorite student comment on my style, “You seem more like a game show host.” Few schools see the value I can bring my students by broad experience, outweighing the energy and longevity of younger candidates. In a shrinking job market, I need every advantage I can get
My avocations are ports of call in the galaxy, fun, relaxing and occasionally a little dangerous. They include writing, reading (in my subject areas of course) and building classic vehicles for automotive competitions.

  49. My goals are like shooting stars. They include keeping up in all my online courses, getting my teacher certification, obtaining a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, getting a teaching job, and raising a family.

My obstacles are like steep hills to climb. Unemployment, maintaining my focus, and having the confidence to reach my highest potential are all obstacles I would like to overcome.

My hobbies are like ice cold water on a hot summer day. I enjoy traveling, reading, and hanging out with my closest family and friends.

  50. My goals are oceans: they are earning my Bachelor's degree in Education, finding a new career in Education after obtaining my degree, & enjoy my daughter's last school year before she goes to college next year!
My obstacles are shells: they are acquiring custody of our grandson, who is 11, balancing a full-time job, taking college courses, and keeping my family first in my life.
My hobbies are sea creatures: they are camping with family, cooking, reading, and my church which I am very active with. We feed the homeless the last Thursday of each month. Also, being involved with the grandkids.

  55. My goals are like the feel of an ocean breeze. They are: obtain my bachelor's degree in elementary education, find a teaching job upon graduation and positively impact a child's life (mine or other).

My obstacles are like the "sticky things" you get all over your clothing after walking in a field of tall weeds. They are: balance between school, three kids and substitute teaching; finding time to exercise; supporting my sister who is fighting kidney cancer.

My hobbies are like leaves falling from a beautiful tree. They are: walking, scrapbooking, weekly bible study and following my kids sports and activities.

    ReplyDelete
  56. My goals are like planting seeds and watching them grow. I started my educational journey many years ago. The seed was planted for me but I had to decided to give it the opportunity to grow. I would like to obtain my bachelor's degree in elementary education, and then obtain my masters degree. My long term goal is to open up an academy for boys. I feel that if the seed is planted for boys at a young age it will help them grow and give them the opportunity to be successful in todays society.

My obstacles are like learning how to walk. It does not happen over night. I have 2 wonderful boys and have taken in 2 wonderful young men that did not have the best living situation. I just need to find a balance!!!!

My hobbies are scrapbooking, youth volunteer for my neighborhood association, cooking, and spending time with my family.

  59. My goals are like stages of children. It seems once it starts it seems to always continue. I have one child that is in college, another that is in elementary school and another that is 7 months. It seems that they are stretched out over many years and I seem to continue learning from them daily. I have been working on my goals for quite a few years now. About 20 years in all. I would like to complete my goal of getting my Bachelors and may be one day being a coordinator or just complete my personal goal of obtaining my Bachelors degree.

My obstacles are like climbing the stairs. It seems a far off and each step I take the stair well seems to get longer and longer it seems as if I will never reach the top. My obstacles are having a young baby, working a full time job, raising 2 other children and taking care of my husband.

My hobbies are like the winter. It seems so far off. I like to do rubber stamping, bowling, playing table games, going to church and spending time with friends and family.

    ReplyDelete
  60. My goals are a set of hurdles before the big race has started. They include finishing a bachelor's degree, being a role model at work, finishing my AAT, raising my GPA, moving out of my parent's house, finding a job that I feel fits for me, get married, have children, and so many more! I feel that my goals are all lined up and just waiting for me to leap.

My obstacles are like swimming in a murky lake. I can never seem to find the surface. Personal obstacles include trying to do too much at once. Feeling the need to take care of others instead of myself. Helping my grandma through her tough time, as well as dealing with my ever changing emotions.

My hobbies are like Haley's Comet. They come around once in a lifetime! When I get the chance I like to read, and spend time with my family.

    ReplyDelete
  61. My goals are like road signs on a long open road leading the way. The signs tell me I want to getting my bachelor's degree in early childhood education, continue to learn/play with young children, and continue to improve upon my health.

My obstacles are like speed bumps slowing me down. Taking on two online classes with no computer skills and a lot of self doubt. Working a part time job with full time responsibilties. My favorite yummy oh so not good for me foods.

My hobbies are like green lights signaling me to go. Go play with my nephews and niece. Go read a good book. Go watch a good movie. Go to dinner parties with good friends. Go travel to far off places.

    ReplyDelete
  62. My goals are dolphins: They are expanding my bachelor’s degree towards early elementary education, teach my own kindergarten class, have a family, and to simply be happy and enjoy life to its fullest.

My Obstacles are spiders: They are money and never having enough, over analyzing everything to the point of ruining some things, not is able to let go and move on, giving too many chances, having too much belief in people, and being my own worst enemy.

My hobbies are fresh white peaches: I love to be active in every way. I love traveling, exploring, experiencing other cultures and completely immersing myself in them. I love sports and cheering loud! I love to be with family and friends. I also love holding my niece because she reminds me of what is real and true in this world. I love dancing, all types of music, movies (especially quoting them!), and just enjoying life!

  68. My goals are like plants. They continue to grow and change. Right now my goal is to recieve my dregree, be a good father, and husband as well as be a strong positive role model for my entire family.

My obstacles are like the weather. they are ever changing and with each new storm fron comes another obstacle. Some are small storms with little stress, while others build and build until they have run their course. They all pass though and lead to a new and brighter day!

My hobbies are like a single blade of grass blowing in the wind. They involve Gardening, Music, Reading,Art, Skateboarding, and most importantly playing with my son! Changing diapers also seems to be a hobbie, That I can't wait quit!

  70. Since beginning this fall at Western , my goals are many. For right now I have the challenges of balancing skill and a full time job and still making an impact while at work.

At times I feel like a continual work in progress. I am continually pushing myself whether it be school or in my free time. I grew up in the Northwest and got involved in outdoor activities in many facets. I like to bike and climb, I music and art are more than a blast for me, they are needed outlet to cope with stresses ahead.

My goals and obstacles are like riding a bull; they keep on moving and may be unpredictable. I still have to hold on

  71. My goals are mountain tops; hard to reach but once you do master them its worth the fight. My main goal right now is to graduate college. Everyone in my family has and it's not acceptable to not. My next goal is to be a starter and have a lot of playing time next volleyball season. I've worked hard to get to this level of play and now I'm ready to show why I'm here. Another goal is to be a good role model for my younger siblings. I want them to look up to me as I did to my older brothers. A big part of me is being independent. My goal is to pay my way through college, my car and all my bills by myself. I get help from my parents but not often and definetly not much. They have raised me to save, save, save. Then to be smart when you do spend.

My obstacles are waves; there are a lot of them and they just keep coming whether I'm ready or not. I am a student and an athlete at Western. Both of those add a lot of stress to my daily life and consume most of my time. Another obstacle being a young adult is trying to find myself and being me.

My hobbies are storms; dangerous and they come and go for different lengths of time. This summer my main hobby was going to the lake. Fishing and tubbing with my family. Also cooking together at night. I love sports of any kind and I am a very natural athlete. I'm not great at them all but can pick up any sport very quickly. I also like things like riding four-wheelers, surfing, shopping, taking pictures and scrapbooking.
